Leonidas, The Brave Warrior

Leonidas, The Brave Warrior
October 27
Rome is really powerful. They are so powerful that they have taken over most of Europe. We as Greece have to stop them. We are the only country left that Rome hasn't taken over. If Rome takes over, then obviously all is lost. Julius Caesar will rule Europe. I can tell you that is not good. We will have new laws enforced that will pay taxes to Caesar. He will charge ridiculous amounts of money to use at his own will.

October 31
Eusebios and I both like the same girl. Her name is Demetra. Her eyes are like the sea. She has beautiful black hair. Eusebios challenged me to a duel. Whoever lost would have to go talk to Demetra. We both drew our wooden training swords. Whoever hit the other person 15 times first, won the duel. We dueled until the score was tied 14 hits for me 14 hits for Eusebios. He had called my name  tauntingly. Then he whacked the helmet off my head. He swung to hit my vulnerable head, but I ducked under his swing and easily tapped his shoulder. “15 hits for me,” I jeered. “Now you have to talk to Demetra.” Eusebios then grinned in defeat.
November 5
Eusebios finally talked to Demetra today. She told him that if he won the upcoming chariot race that she was his. Her parents agreed that it was a good deal. Now, Eusebios is really nervous. He really wants to win that race. The problem is that he has never driven a chariot before. Secretly, I want him to take 2nd place, so that I get Demetra. I’m not going to tell him that though. The chariot race is in 2 weeks. Eusebios is going to have some intense training in the upcoming weeks.

November 8
My father is the leader of the army. The Romans have announced that they are gong to attack us. They are charging toward Sparta as I write. I just hope that my dad will be safe. He thinks that this is the battle that we will finally win. I hope so. Well, I can hear them coming. I have to go.

November 11
So far the war is not going very well. We have been pushed so far, that they can take any house. If we fight back we should be able to hold our position. We know what their weakness is. They won’t know we are coming if we attack them from behind. Our plan is to attack from behind early tomorrow morning. If all goes well, we can drive them back to Rome. We will have time then to make another plan and train to pull off the plan.

November 13
Our plan worked, until my dad got injured. His leg has a gash that is to the bone. He is in a lot of pain right now. He probably won’t be able to fight again. Other than that huge loss our plan was successful. We drove the Romans out of Greece. They will have to regroup. I will practice leading the army. In one week we are going to attack the Romans.

November 19
Today is the big day. Eusebios is racing in the chariot race. It is very important that he wins, because of he takes 1st then Demetra is his. He has been training hard for this race. I have been training hard also. We are attacking the Romans tomorrow. I am confident that we can do some damage. Eusebios just arrived at my house. We are going over to the race together.

November 20
Eusebios was killed in the chariot race last night. He was in a heated race to the finish line. Between 3 chariots it was tied. As they rounded the last turn, Eusebios’ chariot hit a rock and spun off course. His chariot collided with the chariot to the left of him. Eusebios was flung from his chariot and onto the track. The other two chariots, too competitive to stop ran right over Eusebios’ limp body. I am furious that they didn’t just go around him. Besides that shocking news, the other news is that we have set up camp on a ridge overlooking the Romans’ camp. We have changed plans and are going to attack at noon. We are having a quick training before we leave for our positions. I must now gather my troops.

November 23
We lost the battle Very badly. They killed everyone with the exception of 3 other soldiers and myself. Luckily we only brought a small army of 35. Losing 31 soldiers is a big blow though. I guess it’s off to training camp once more. I am going to work my soldiers really hard. We will not lose this battle.

November 25
I went and talked to Demetra and her parents. I told her that I would like to marry her. She asked her parents and they said that if I defeated the Roman Empire that I could marry her. That is some real motivation for me. I will fight for Sparta and avenge Eusebios’ death.

November 28
The past few days I have been teaching the army some strategic scenarios in case they are caught alone. We need to be able to slaughter as many warriors as possible. In order to defeat the Roman Empire we need to kill everyone. That is my plan. We need to kill any Roman we see.

November 30
I feel like the army is improving a lot. We should be able to start the domination of Rome in at most 6 days. Realistically I think it will be more like 2 days. We have run scenarios like crazy in order to prepare the troops for the big battle. We will depart and immediately attack anybody Roman when we are prepared.

December 5
We left today and arrived at a Roman base camp. We charged in and killed everyone. No one, no thing, no life was left. We are definitely ready. I think that the training has paid off. We completely dominated. It was utter destruction.
December 7
It is getting cold. We hope to arrive at Rome, Italy in 3 days time. I have more to report. We have ripped through 7 more camps and left nothing behind. The domination of Rome has officially begun. Life is great right now. I wrote to Demetra to tell her of my progress. She wrote back and said she is happy we are doing so well.

December 9
We have arrived at Rome. We are waiting until nightfall to attack. We destroyed every camp outside of the main city. This is it. This is the moment I, and every other warrior has dreamed of. Battle on Spartans!

December 10
WE DID IT! I murdered Julius Caesar with my bare hands! We marched through Rome hacking down every person we saw. Then we arrived at Julius Caesar’s palace. I marched right in and killed the guards. It was quite a battle with the Dictator of Rome. We sword-fought for a while. It all went awry for Julius when I sliced off his left arm. He was helpless. I told him that if he dropped his sword then I would too. We both did, and then I leaped onto him and tackled him to the ground. I strangled him and he couldn’t do anything about it. He died after he suffocated.

December 15
I married Demetra today. We are going to move to Rome in a few weeks. We will be happy together. We will no longer be in danger of being conquered. In Rome we will live in peace.

This is the end of my journal. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
